This is especially true for secondary female characters, who in some books only exist to receive the threat of sexual violence and give the male main character a reason for Revenge or to move the plot forward. Lady Redshirts, for all you Star Trek fans. This is exhausting to read time and time again, especially when the consequences of the assault are usually given the emotional depth of a teaspoon. Serious Trigger Warnings should be on books so people can avoid the ones that are going to put them in an emotionally unhealthy place, but I’d also like to see warnings of just plain awful content.   Let’s call them Reader Warnings: not as serious a business as Trigger Warnings, but still a valuable reader tool. A simple sticker on the front, WARNING: CONTAINS GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE THAT ARE QUASI-EROTIC AND WILL MAKE YOU WONDER WHAT THE HELL THE AUTHOR WAS THINKING would go a long way toward helping readers make better informed choices in a crowded market. And I know a lot of people probably think that’s the purpose of reviews, but who has time to read reviews? Also, a Reader’s Warning would give me a quick and easy way to figure out if a book is worth my time, without the spoilery aside that “of course character B died, she has to come back as a ghost for the plot in book three to work.”   Just think of the applications!   If I’m not in the mood to read an epic fantasy that is going to contain exactly three female characters to a cast of approximately   five thousand male characters, then the sticker WARNING: THIS IS A BOOK OF MANLY DUDES DOING MANLY THINGS AND SOMETIMES THE LADIES SHOW UP FOR SOME EMOTIONAL   DEPTH BUT DON’T COUNT ON IT would be a real time saver. Eulogy for Mother When I was a young boy, there were three words that my mother said to me each morning, five days a week, nine months a year for 12 years....RISE AND SHINE, she would say. It meant we were to get up for another day of school. If I had known then, what I know now, there would have been about five words I would have said to her each time. My mother didn't have the benefit of a good, solid education. But, she was the smartest person I've ever known. She didn't have a diploma or degree from any school or university. But, she had a PhD in life and yet another, in love. Many had said of her that she did too much for us, her children. It was said that perhaps she loved us too much. But, I ask of you, just how can you do too much for your children and even more, how can you love them too much? What people seemed to forget was the circumstances surrounding our life at home when we were coming up. She had to be both mother and father to us. Yes, we had a father there, in body. It was mama who did for us, it was mama who watched out for us, it was mama who calmed our fears. It was mama who said that one day things would get better for us, that the light at the end of the tunnel wasn't an oncoming train. She was right. There are so many memories of her that I scarcely know where to begin. One that seems to be standing out most right now is when we moved to a place called Woolmarket, MS. This place was so far out in the woods, I think they had to import daylight to separate day from night. My first day in the second grade, I was confused as to what bus to take home from school. So, I decided I would walk home down the road I thought was where we lived. 'As you can imagine, my mother was frantic when the bus came by our house and I didn't get off. She got a neighbor to help her go looking for me, her wayward son. When they came across me, I was so embarrassed, I didn't want to get in the car. My mother ASSURED me I was getting into that car.

A comparison of the development of tragedy Essay

This essay compares the differences and similarities in the way in which the tragedies develop in Macbeth and A View from the Bridge. Macbeth is a more intense tragedy, as innocent people die as a result of his madness, before he himself is killed. A View from the Bridge is a softer tragedy, dealing with two men who want the same lady. Straightaway, with such a high-powered storyline, Macbeth is going to be the more intense tragedy. The aim of a tragedy is to inspire a mix of emotions in the reader, where they have attachments to both sides, and to present an unfortunate sequence of events that cause an unfortunate ending. With so many more characters involved in Macbeth and a much longer sequence of events, it can be considered better at creating a mix of emotion in people, and thus might be considered the better tragedy. Both of the primary victims in Macbeth and A View from the Bridge performed a favour for the individual that murdered them, which adds to the tragedy. In Macbeth, Macbeth murders King Duncan in order to become king. King Duncan refers to Macbeth as his ‘worthiest kinsman’ and his ‘worthy Cawdor’ after he made Macbeth thane of Cawdor, which was a rank of nobility. Furthermore, upon staying within the Macbeth household, Duncan ‘granted many gifts’. He presented a diamond to Lady Macbeth for her ‘boundless hospitality’. This makes Duncan’s death evermore tragic and unjust, as he did not deserve to die. Similarly, in A View from the Bridge, Eddie offers two illegal immigrants a place to stay in his home while they find work, and insists he has to ‘buy a tablecloth’ to make his guests feel more welcome. Yes, Eddie’s relationship with Roldolpho sours, but his initial welcoming was an act of kindness. In both Macbeth and A View from the Bridge, the story started off well. During the development of the tragedies, Eddie went against advice from Alferi, which was to leave Catherine and Roldolpho to it. Had Eddie taken this advice, he would likely still be alive, so ignoring the advice lead to his demise. Contrarily, it can be argued that Macbeth took a lot of advice from Lady Macbeth and bended to her will. Macbeth was very uncertain about taking this advice, as he considered his loyalty to Duncan as his ‘kinsman and his subject’, and recognised that Duncan had his own noble qualities, as he ‘[h]ath borne his faculties so meek’. Had Macbeth not taken this advice and listened to himself, he would probably also still be alive. This is a difference in the development of the tragedies because both victims took opposite decisions, but ultimately ended up with the same fate. Macbeth was killed by Macduff, because previously Macbeth had murdered Lady Macduff and their children. Macbeth had not harmed Macduff himself, so he had not directly attacked the man who killed him, but the people who were close to him. Marco killed Eddie, though Eddie had not had problems with Marco, only Roldolpho. Thus, both characters were killed by people they had not directly attacked. This adds to the tragedy in both cases because it might cause the viewer to have some sympathy for the victim, or sympathy for the murderers who acted out of revenge in both cases. More sympathy might be afforded for Eddie than Macbeth, because the fate that Eddie got was not one he had inflicted on anyone else. While he lunged at Marco with a knife, it could have been that he was acting out of self-defence. However, Macbeth had ordered the deaths of absolutely innocent people. Lady Macduff, her children, Banquo and Duncan and the chamberlains, and had planned to kill other innocent people – Macduff and Fleance. Thus, in this case, it could be argued that Macbeth’s fate was a certain kind of karma. The same cannot be said for Eddie in A View from a Bridge, so this might cause the reader to have more sympathy for Eddie than more Macbeth. Macbeth focuses more on the depths of despair that its characters fall into more than A View from a Bridge. Lady Macbeth’s personal tragedy is explained, her blood-stained hands and her dreams and her eventual suicide may make the reader feel her tragedy as well as her husband’s. Duncan’s fall into the depths of despair are also poetically made apparent, through soliloquies and expressions such as ‘Will all Neptune’s great ocean wash this blood’, which is the expression of Duncan’s blood on his hands that haunts Macbeth throughout the play. The reader isn’t given the same insight into the raw mix of emotions in each character in A View from the Bridge, so the same mix of opinions of the characters is difficult to achieve. To conclude, while there are similarities and differences between the development of tragedy in both Macbeth and A View from a Bridge, Macbeth gives a much fuller and complex development of tragedy. It has so many elements in its plot and unfortunates in the sequence of events that lead to the end that it is difficult to fully explore its development of tragedy in comparison with such a short book.

Sacar green card para cà ³nyuge de residente permanente Primer paso: enviar formulario I-130 a USCIS, documentacià ³n de apoyo y primer pago.Segundo paso: esperar por visa disponible en la categorà ­a 2A, segà ºn indica el Boletà ­n de Visas del Departamento de Estado.Tercer paso: ajuste de estatus, si el cà ³nyuge para el que se piden los papeles està ¡ legalmente en los EE.UU. o tramitacià ³n consular, para el cà ³nyuge que està ¡ en otro paà ­s. Ademà ¡s, puede pagarse mediante tarjeta de crà ©dito, siendo para ello necesario completar el formulario G-1450.  ¿Adà ³nde se envà ­a la documentacià ³n? Se envà ­a a un centro de recogida del USCIS que se denomina lockbox y que es diferente segà ºn el lugar de residencia del solicitante. Lo mà ¡s recomendable es enviarla utilizando el servicio de correo certificado (certified mail) de Correos. Una vez llega la documentacià ³n al lockbox,  se cobra el cheque o la money order y se reenvà ­a el expediente al Centro de Servicio del USCIS que la va a tramitar. En poco tiempo se recibirà ¡ un documento conocido como NOA1 con informacià ³n relevante. En primer lugar, el nà ºmero de expediente, con el que ya se puede hacer un seguimiento. Y, en segundo lugar, el nombre del Centro de Servicio que se ocupa de la tramitacià ³n, con lo que es posible mirar en la pà ¡gina web del USCIS el tiempo aproximado que se toman en procesar este tipo de peticiones. En los siguientes meses se recibirà ¡ otra notificacià ³n: la NOA2. En esa carta se informa, por un lado, si la solicitud ha sido negada, y en este caso la razà ³n. Si ese es el caso, hablar con un abogado para analizar si se puede solucionar el problema. Por otro lado, la NOA2 notifica en la mayorà ­a de los casos que la peticià ³n ha sido aprobada. Y como las peticiones son mà ¡s que las residencias disponibles se producen atrasos en la tramitacià ³n de la green card hasta que hay visas de inmigrante disponibles para esa categorà ­a. La espera acaba cuando la fecha de prioridad es anterior a dà ­a que publica el boletà ­n de visas en la categorà ­a 2A, es decir, cà ³nyuge de residentes permanentes legales. Cabe destacar que para los ciudadanos de Mà ©xico puede llevar un retraso mayor que el resto de los paà ­ses de Latinoamà ©rica y Espaà ±a. Fase final de la tramitacià ³n de residencia Cuando segà ºn el boletà ­n de visas ya hay visa disponible para esa categorà ­a se reanuda la tramitacià ³n. A partir de aquà ­ hay dos posibles caminos: ajuste de estatus o tramitacià ³n consular. Ajuste de estatus Si el cà ³nyuge extranjero para el que el residente permanente ha solicitado la green card està ¡ en EE.UU. legalmente se inicia el ajuste de estatus. La planilla a llenar es la I-485. El costo actual es de $1.225 e incluye el costo del servicio para los datos biomà ©tricos, la peticià ³n de permiso de trabajo y el permiso para viajar fuera de los Estados Unidos, conocido como advance parole. Ademà ¡s, deberà ¡ documentacià ³n que pruebe que el residente que patrocina tiene recursos suficientes para patrocinar. En este punto, importantes cambios entran en vigor con fecha 15 de octubre de 2019, a partir de la cual las solicitudes podrà ¡n negarse si el oficial migratorio considera que el migrante ha sido o puede ser en el futuro una carga pà ºblica. Tambià ©n serà ¡ necesario acudir a un mà ©dico autorizado por las autoridades migratorias para realizar un examen mà ©dico. Trà ¡mite consular Si el cà ³nyuge extranjero està ¡ fuera de Estados Unidos se inicia el procedimiento consular. En esta fase la iniciativa la lleva siempre las autoridades de Inmigracià ³n, primero el Centro Nacional de Visas y luego el consulado. En general, estos son los pasos: El NVC se comunicarà ¡ con el residente que pide los papeles para su cà ³nyuge y, sucesivamente, enviarà ¡ y solicitarà ¡ informacià ³n, comenzando con factura para pagar por el affidavà ­t of support.  La cuota es de $120. Tras el pago pago, enviarà ¡Ã‚  para llenar el  affidavit.
